1. NET Retreat Dates Available

A few NET retreat dates are still available in our archdiocese in February and early March. A Sunday and a Friday have recently opened up and are now available. Parishes and schools who have used the National Evangelization Team (NET) over the last few years have commended NET for their powerful witness and practical retreat ministry. The following 2006 dates are available for NET retreats: Fri, Feb 10; Tue, Feb 14, Wed, Feb 15, Thu, Feb 16, Sun, Feb 19, Thu, Feb 23; and Wed, Mar 1. For more info, contact Michal Horace at mhorace@archdpdx.org.

2. Martin Luther King, Jr. Ecumenical Prayer Service

You’re invited to celebrate Christian unity at De La Salle North Catholic High School. Coordinators of Youth Ministry and youth ministers are invited for a prayer service followed by lunch on Thursday, January 19, 2006 at 10:25 a.m. De La Salle North is located at 7654 N. Delaware Ave in Portland, (one block north of Lombard). Please RSVP to Beth Schaller at 503 285-9385 ext. 154 or bschaller@delasallenorth.org.

3. Justice & Peace with Teens Workshop

How do we instill a justice & service consciousness and spirituality in our teenagers? How do we create integrated, action-learning justice & service catechetical models for teens? Join us for “Fostering the Faith Growth of Adolescents through Justice & Service” on Mar 11-12, 2006 at the Griffin Center in Milwaukie. This workshop can be taken as itself or as one of the eight classes of the Youth Ministry Studies Program (YMSP) and is open to all adults. If your parish has someone who is responsible for justice & service in your parish, please let them know about this valuable training. Group rates are available so you can bring your DRE, pastor, and volunteers. Go to www.archdpdx.org/ym/ymsp.htm for a flyer and registration information.

4. Archdiocese of Portland to Host NFCYM National Membership Meeting – Call for Donations

The Archdiocese of Portland is proud to be hosting the annual gathering of diocesan youth ministry directors from across the country this January 24-28, 2006. The dioceses that the diocesan YM directors represent are members of the National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry (NFCYM). Dozens of youth-serving organizations are members of NFCYM as well (including Portland-based OCP). The gathering will take place at the Hilton in Downtown Portland. Several youth ministers have volunteered to assist and we’re grateful. Now we’re looking for donations of goodies to put in welcome bags or to give away as door prizes. If you or someone you know might be willing to make a donation of goodies or prizes, please contact Michal at mhorace@archdpdx.org.

5. Youth Ministry Resource Manuals for 2006 in Stock

This year’s edition of the popular Youth Ministry Resource Manual produced by the National Federation of Catholic Youth Ministry is now available. The Office of Youth & Young Adult Ministry has purchased a large quantity of these manuals and will sell them at cost ($15). Coordinators of Youth Ministry, DRE’s, and catechists from around the country rave about the catechetical sessions and planning information available in the manual. Many ministers purchase the manual for the preparation material and tips for World Youth Day in Parishes (held this year on Oct 29, 2006). Contact our office to purchase your copy—we’ll send you a manual, bill you and we’ll pick up the shipping costs.

6. Food Fast Materials Now Available

The 2006 Food Fast Coordinator's Manuals and Videos are now available. Food Fast, a program of the Catholic Relief Services, provides an experience of faith and education that inspires youth to live in solidarity with our brothers and sisters around the world who live in hunger and poverty. It is the only hunger experience program that is based on the principles of Catholic Social Teaching. To order free materials and to learn more about how you can sponsor this 24-hour retreat program in your parish or school, go to www.foodfast.org.

7. Free 6 Month Digital Subscription to Group Magazine

Group Magazine, one of the premier youth ministry magazines, is offering free six month subscriptions to their new digital editions. Go to http://groupmag-trial.texterity.com/grouptrial/ to sign up.

8. The CORE Youth Ministry Training Comes to Oregon

Two separate “The CORE” one day youth ministry training events are coming to Oregon. The CORE, presented by Youth Specialties, is an inexpensive way to offer your youth ministry team members some training at an affordable price. The CORE will take place on Sat, March 4 in Eugene and Sat, April 29 in Beaverton. The early-bird rate for an individual is only $39 if registered by Feb 10. Visit www.youthspecialties.com/thecore/ for more info and online registration.

9. Get a free copy of ConGRADulations 2006 CD

ConGRADulations 2006, an annual compilation of Christian music and video messages geared for your graduating seniors, will soon be available. Interlinc, the makers of ConGRADulations, want to send you a no-strings-attached free copy. They hope you’ll like the CD enough to purchase copies for your soon-to-be-graduates (it does sound like a pretty neat graduation gift). You can find more out about ConGRADulations and order your free copy at http://interlinc-online.com/news/article_92.html.
