Last year’s America’s Junior Miss (from our archdiocese) guest stars on EWTN’s “Life on the Rock” Amy Kerr, 2002-2003 America’s Junior Miss, will be a guest star on EWTN’s youth-oriented “Life on the Rock” show this Thursday, Aug 14. Amy, who grew up in St. Edward parish in Keizer and is currently a student at Willamette College in Salem, recently passed on her Jr. Miss crown. Amy will talk about how she is a witness to her Catholic Faith in the public eye, under the stresses of being in a beauty pageant. Please encourage your teens to watch Amy on “Life on the Rock.”  Read more about Amy at http://www.ewtn.com/rock/A_kerr.asp or http://www.ajm.org/a/about/winners_pages/amys-year/amyindex.asp. Check your cable or satellite system for the time and channel of this Thursday’s “Life on the Rock” on EWTN.

3. Evangelization & Catechesis WorkshopWe only have a few slots left for our upcoming Youth Ministry Studies Class on Aug 23-24. If you haven’t signed up yet, send in your registration quick. No phone registrations will be taken.

4. NCYCWe still have room for more to join us in Houston for the 2003 National Catholic Youth Conference on Nov 13-16. Contact the Office of Youth & Young Adult Ministry immediately if you need more information.

5. Youth Minister GatheringPlease consider joining us for our annual Youth Minister Gathering (YMG). We’ll spend time sharing stories, networking, reviewing child protection issues, and discussing the archdiocesan calendar of future events and programs. Whether you’re a rookie or a seasoned veteran – everyone has something to pass on and something to learn. YMG starts Mon, Aug 25 at 7pm and runs through Wed, Aug 27 at noon. New youth ministers are invited to the New Youth Minister’s Orientation at 2pm on Wed. NOTE: A group that is exploring building a Catholic youth retreat center in the Portland metropolitan area is inviting YMG attendees to dinner on Mon, Aug 27 during a scheduled break and dinner-on-you-own. This group wants to hear your needs and ideas for the retreat center project. YMG attendees are invited to spend 4:30-6:30pm with this group. The meeting will include a site visit of the retreat center campus and a free BBQ dinner. If you are interested in attending, please RVSP to Julia Hopkins at jhopkins@archdpdx.org so they can get a rough count for the free dinner.

6. Young Adult Ministry Training DayDon’t forget to mark your calendar (and your pastor’s!) for one of the the two Young Adult Training Days this fall – Thu, Oct 16 in Springfield, and Fri, Oct 17 in Portland.

7. Retreat Day for Parish Educators (catechists, youth ministers, DRE’s) – September 20, 2003. 10-3pm.  St. Alice Parish in Springfield. Cost $10 per person includes lunch and a retreat book "The Work of Your Life". Must register by September 5. To register or for additional information contact Anne Kephart or Millie Pungecar at St. Alice Parish (541-747-7041).  Randy Kollars will facilitate this day focusing on recognizing your gifts and strengths. It will also explore developing an understanding of the importance of sustaining your own spiritual life while working to develop the spiritual lives of those you serve.  Much of this workshop will build upon the workshop presented by Michael Carrota at the Sabbath Day of Rest and provide a starting point for using the handbook introduced during that workshop.
