1.      Did You Read The Catholic Sentinel’s Article On Gabriela? Last week’s Catholic Sentinel, newspaper for the Archdiocese of Portland and the Diocese of Baker, spotlighted Gabriela Laddusaw of the Youth & Young Adult Ministry office in their July 11, 2003 issue. The article, entitled “Behind-the scenes youth worker inspires with enthusiasm, cheer,” can be found on page 15 and continues on page 16 or read it online at www.sentinel.org/articles/2003-28/11581.html. As many of you know, Gabriela will continue working with youth and young adult ministry, but will have additional duties for the Department of Evangelization. Please take a moment to read the beautiful article and please remember to show Gabriela your appreciation the next time you see or talk to her.

2.      Apex Looking For Ministry Opportunities In Archdiocese. Apex Ministries will be in the archdiocese this October and is available to lead a family night for your parish. Since they rarely get out to he Northwest, this is a rare opportunity. You may recall that we made this invitation several months ago. Several parishes contacted Apex but eventually none of those parishes were able to host an event for various reasons. Our office fully supports Apex’s ministry and has found them to be excellent evangelizers to all ages. We’ve yet to find anyone who has had a negative experience with them or felt like they did not get their money’s worth. Brad (1/2 of Apex) asked us to pass the following note on to you…

APeX Ministries is coming to town! You might remember them from the last several National Catholic Youth Conferences and National Conferences on Catholic Youth Ministry. APeX aka Gene Monterastelli and Brad Farmer are two young men who make their living by crisscrossing North America as evangelists. They use a unique presentation style they call Christian Vaudeville (which includes death defying juggling, humor, sketch comedy, storytelling, audience participation, and personal testimony). Gene one day hopes to compete in the Olympics in synchronized swimming. Brad is very strong!

In other words, Gene and Brad are evangelists, they throw things at each other, and are funny.

APeX Ministries is now proudly offering their unique, inspiring presentation of Christian Vaudeville in the NorthWest and WestCentral Oregon area October 8-9th, and 12-13th, 2003. If you're not familiar with APeX, a wealth of information can be found at apexministries.com.  For the last six years, they have crisscrossed the country (and a bit of Canada) sharing the Gospel message in our own unique way. They keynote large diocesan, regional, and national conferences, as well as lead retreats, parish missions, or share evenings with youth groups, families, and full parish communities.  They can certainly work with the teens of your parish alone, but one thing Gene and Brad are both passionate about is family ministry. It's so cool to get everyone (all ages) together to laugh together and pray together, and they've found that much of their material is well received by all ages. In light of all this, they are trying to do more family ministry over the next few years.

Feel free to contact Brad for booking information, or for any reason, at (303) 471-0783, or toll free (rings on the same line) at 888-522-APEX, or e-mail him at brad@apexministries.com.

Don't pass this opportunity up!  We GUARANTEE that it will be the GREATEST EVENT YOUR CHURCH WILL EVER HOST...that specifically involves Gene Monterastelli and Brad Farmer throwing things at each other, sharing serious and comical stories, crackin' jokes, and sharing real true stories from their own spiritual development... Unless, of course, you have them back next year.

3.      NET dates are going fast! Since we sent out our last snail mailing, we’ve received several requests for scheduling the NET, the National Evangelization Team, for retreats. Remember that NET is only in town long enough to do 15 total retreats during their April 17-May 4, 2004 visit in our archdiocese. If you want to reserve a spot, please contact our office as soon as possible at youthministry@archdpdx.org or 503-233-8395. If you’re planning on teaming up with other parishes, now is the time to coordinate your plans, and then contact us.

4.      Max Enrollment For Evangelization & Catechesis Workshop Is 45—Register Quick! The upcoming Evangelization & Catechesis workshop, one of the eight classes of the Youth Ministry Studies Program (YMSP), is traditionally one of the most popular of the series. As the first class of a new cycle and before many parish-based youth ministry programs kick into high gear, this is the perfect time to bring your adult team to hand-on training. We can only register 45 students in the class and we’ve heard of several parishes planning to bring “mega-teams,” that is a team of three or four from the same parish. So whether you’re a past student continuing the YMSP, a new YMSP student, or someone looking for a single workshop, get your registration in soon. After the first 45 registrants, we will start a waiting list.

5.      Part Time Youth Ministry Positions Available In Portland Metro Area. Several part-time youth ministry coordinator positions are currently open in the metropolitan Portland area. If you or someone you know is interested, please contact the Office of Youth & Young Adult Ministry at youthministry@archdpdx.org or 503-233-8395.
